Mike Adhikari is President and owner of ICI since 1984. ICI is a boutique Investment Banking firm providing M&A advisory services to buyers, sellers and managers of mid-market businesses. In addition, ICI is involved in business valuation, strategic planning, expert witness and value enhancement consulting.

Creativity, attention to details and ability to handle tough assignments are the hallmark of ICI. Completed transactions range from a $1 million service company to a $25 million plastics manufacturing business to a consulting engagement with a $250 million sporting goods distributor to a JV with a $500 million paper company. ICI has worked with businesses from very high profit margins to turnarounds, from high tech ISP to metal fabrication, from private companies to public company divestitures and from single owner to complex ownership. ICI has worked with clients in U.S., Europe and Asia.

In addition to customary role of an M&A Intermediary (i.e. marketing, financial analysis, search, negotiations, etc.), ICI is involved in deal structure, tax minimization, due diligence, contract review, and coordination with client’s accountants, attorneys and lenders. ICI focuses on maximizing client’s economic return, minimizing surprises and reducing post-sale risks.

Prior to purchasing Illinois Corporate, Mike worked for a $400 million division of a Fortune 500 company manufacturing graphic arts equipment and supplies. He held various positions including Director of Marketing, Director of Strategic Planning, Director of Manufacturing and Manager of R&D.

Education: MBA - Finance (1977, U of Chicago), MS - Computer Eng. (1972, Cleveland State University), MS - Mech. Eng. (1970, Illinois Institute of Technology), and a BS - Mech. Eng. (1968, India). He also has earned CBI (Certified Business Intermediary) and CM&A (Certified in Mergers and Acquisition).

Since 1994, Mike has been teaching Mergers & Acquisitions, as a guest speaker, in the Entrepreneurial Finance class (ranked in the Top 12 by Business Week) of the MBA program at the Kellogg Business School of the Northwestern University. Mike also teaches “Transaction Valuation” as part of the CM&A certification training.

Wall Street Journal and U.S. Congress hearings quoted Mike's analysis on value decline of small businesses due to 12/99 tax law that repealed installment sale provision for certain taxpayers. Mike’s work helped reverse the 12/99 tax law resulting in reinstatement of the installment sale provision in 12/2000.

Mike is a frequent speaker on M&A and valuation in national conferences. He is also past-President (2002 and 2003) of MBBI (Midwest Business Brokers & Intermediaries), and a board member of AMAA (Alliance of Mergers and Acquisition Advisors).
